{"id":1081,"date":"2015-03-10T09:43:37","date_gmt":"2015-03-10T13:43:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pentecostalmusicians.com\/PMblog\/?p=1081"},"modified":"2015-03-10T09:43:37","modified_gmt":"2015-03-10T13:43:37","slug":"benefits-of-listening-to-gospel-music","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pentecostalmusicians.com\/PMblog\/?p=1081","title":{"rendered":"Benefits of Listening to Gospel Music"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The definition of Gospel is <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong><em>\u201cgood news\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/span> so it is only natural that Christian and Gospel music contains the good news of Jesus Christ!<\/p>\n<p>So what are the benefits of listening to Christian and Gospel music versus listening to secular music? The Bible says in Philippians 4:8\u00a0<span style=\"color: #800080;\"><em> \u201cFinally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.\u201d<\/em> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Good Gospel music is still abundantly available for our listening pleasure today\u2014<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>these are songs which will encourage, lift us up and testify what God has done and what He can do<\/em><\/span>. Non-Christian music truly does affect our relationship with the Lord!\u00a0 While not all non-Christian music is bad or sends a negative or evil message ask yourself if you as a Christian would to play that song if the Lord was physically in the room with you.\u00a0 Probably not\u2014even if it isn&#8217;t bad!<\/p>\n<p>Why?\u00a0 Because a true Christian knows deep inside that if something doesn&#8217;t glorify God, it probably does not please Him. With songs of hope and promise available why would a Christian who loves the Lord choose to listen to songs that drag us down emotionally and spiritually? There is an old joke about what you get when you play secular country music backwards.\u00a0 You get your wife back; you get your dog back.\u00a0 Why would anyone choose to listen to junk that promotes finding peace in a bottle of alcohol or talks about cheating on your spouse. What kinds of Gospel music do we listen to and sing?\u00a0\u00a0 There are horizontal songs which <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">testify to others<\/span> about God\u2019s goodness and what He can do.\u00a0 Then there are vertical songs which we sing as <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">praise directly to the Lord.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"color: #800080;\">\u00a0<em>It doesn&#8217;t matter\u00a0whether the song is old school or new \u00a0if it has the Gospel message!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Lift Up the Name of Jesus<\/strong><\/span> Songs that lift up the name of Jesus Christ affect the lives of everyone you meet.\u00a0 Jesus said<em> \u201cif I be lifted up I will draw all men unto me.\u201d\u00a0<\/em> (John 12:32)\u00a0 Listen to music that lifts Jesus up!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Scripture Songs<\/strong><\/span> Scripture songs which \u201cbless the Lord\u201d and \u201cexalt\u201d God\u2019s greatness can stir your heart and bring revival!\u00a0 Listen to Scripture songs because Scripture is anointed!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Hope and Victory<\/strong><\/span> More than ever, in today\u2019s world, people need hope!\u00a0 We must know in our heart that Jesus is the Answer and that it\u2019s possible to live victoriously in Jesus Christ!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>The Blood of Jesus<\/strong><\/span> Songs about the blood brings great conviction and excitement and reminds us how Jesus shed His blood on Calvary to redeem us!\u00a0 This is the central foundation of our salvation!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Good Sound Doctrine<\/strong><\/span> Make sure the songs you sing reflect good SOUND DOCTRINE!\u00a0 When in doubt\u2014don\u2019t!
