\"Clone_Small\"<\/a> It amuses, yet annoys me when I hear people say \u201cbut that\u2019s not the way they did it on the recording!\u201d\u00a0<\/em> <\/span> Think about it–especially us gals\u2014have you ever had the occasion to buy a dress that you just loved and anxiously anticipated wearing to church, camp meeting, or a special service only to arrive and find out that another gal is wearing an IDENTICAL<\/strong> <\/em>dress.\u00a0 How embarrassing this can be!<\/span><\/p>\n

Not only do we not like to dress identical to others (believe it or not—most identical twins don\u2019t even enjoy dressing exactly alike) most likely we wouldn\u2019t do an EXACT copy of someone else\u2019s home d\u00e9cor or purchase the exact sofa or bedroom ensemble.<\/span> I enjoy looking at clothing and home d\u00e9cor and getting ideas\u2014but when it comes right down to it—I just use these for a guide and NEVER make an exact replica.\u00a0 This is called DESIGNING or an ORIGINAL DESIGN!<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The same applies to music arrangements\u2014listen to the recording and use it as a guide\u2014but you don\u2019t HAVE<\/strong><\/em> to practice or perform it EXACTLY the same way it is on the recording.\u00a0 This does not give you an excuse to dumb down your arrangement to the point that you just SETTLE FOR LESS instead of challenging yourself to stretch your talent and creativity to see your true capabilities!\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

Use the intros, licks and chords if you like but if you need to change the key in order to keep your sopranos from sounding like Minnie Mouse, by all means do it.\u00a0 If that sends the parts too high or too low for your altos and tenors, switch them up.\u00a0 If a bridge just doesn\u2019t \u201cfit\u201d your group or church, eliminate or replace it with something else.\u00a0 Make your own medleys! <\/span>This is known as ARRANGING!\u00a0<\/span> <\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Quite frankly, a person who moans \u201cbut that\u2019s not the way
\n\u201d<\/em> usually simply just lacks<\/strong> the creativity and ability<\/strong> to arrange!\u00a0 If you need help getting started, just ASK!\u00a0 Most of the time you\u2019ll find other musicians willing and able to help you get started!\u00a0 Try arranging\u2014don\u2019t be a clone!<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
