{"id":451,"date":"2015-01-02T18:29:49","date_gmt":"2015-01-02T23:29:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pentecostalmusicians.com\/PMblog\/?p=451"},"modified":"2015-01-02T18:29:49","modified_gmt":"2015-01-02T23:29:49","slug":"be-a-mentor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pentecostalmusicians.com\/PMblog\/?p=451","title":{"rendered":"Be A Mentor!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: book antiqua,palatino;\">We all know kids who sit on church pews bored to death just waiting for the service to be over.\u00a0 Would they be more interested in church if they could be involved in your music program?\u00a0 Most children love music and their ability to memorize songs is sometimes amazing.\u00a0 It is also interesting that the child who is exposed to a musical instrument will probably be able to play that instrument when they grow up.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-990\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pentecostalmusicians.com\/PMblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/NoelaniPiano-225x300.png\" alt=\"NoelaniPiano\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pentecostalmusicians.com\/PMblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/NoelaniPiano-225x300.png 225w, https:\/\/www.pentecostalmusicians.com\/PMblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/NoelaniPiano.png 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: book antiqua,palatino;\">Many small churches do not have enough praise singers, bass players, drummers, and keyboard or organ players.\u00a0 <strong><em>Start a mentoring program in your church NOW.<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong> Teach the children while they are young and allow them to get involved early in Sunday School, Children\u2019s Church or Youth Ministry.\u00a0 By allowing a child to participate, you are developing a leader.\u00a0 It also encourages faithfulness because that child will not want to miss a service!<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-993\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pentecostalmusicians.com\/PMblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/PrestleyandMom-300x289.png\" alt=\"PrestleyandMom\" width=\"300\" height=\"289\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pentecostalmusicians.com\/PMblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/PrestleyandMom-300x289.png 300w, https:\/\/www.pentecostalmusicians.com\/PMblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/PrestleyandMom.png 473w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: book antiqua,palatino;\">I encourage my students to <em><strong>have a background of note reading and ear training.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em> This will allow them to \u201ccommunicate\u201d in the musical world without having to apologize \u201coh I just play by ear.\u201d\u00a0 Come on\u2014it\u2019s not rocket science!\u00a0 Note lessons should be supplemented by ear lessons in order to be proficient in a Pentecostal worship service.\u00a0 Quite honestly, musicians who only can play just by note or just by ear are equally handicapped!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: book antiqua,palatino;\"><em><strong>Learning to sing in harmony<\/strong> <\/em>is another thing that usually just doesn\u2019t \u201chappen\u201d but can be taught.\u00a0 Ask your adults who are proficient in singing harmonies to mentor a young person.
